Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster – the signature model guitar of the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughan. It’s based on his all-time favorite guitar, Number One, which he called “First Wife” – and man, did he love that guitar. It was a Fender Stratocaster, built way back in ’63, and Vaughan got his hands on it in ’74, trading it at a music store in Austin, Texas.

That guitar was like an extension of his soul, and he used it on almost every recording with Double Trouble. But in 1990, Number One was retired due to a ton of fret replacements, though he did still play it from time to time.

Fast forward to ’92 – that’s when the Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster hit the scene, based on the exact specs of Number One. It debuted at the NAMM Show in January of that year, and music stores all over were selling them like hotcakes.

Now, the artisans at the Custom Shop have gone and done the impossible – they’ve crafted a guitar that Vaughan co-designed with them before his untimely passing. This guitar is highly sought after, and we’re damn proud to have it as a permanent fixture in the Custom Artist Collection.

You best believe SRV heavily modified his Strat to match his energetic, yet controlled, playing style. We’ve included a trio of hot, high-output Custom Shop Hand-Wound Texas Special pickups for that fiery, authentically Fender tone that’s as big as the Lone Star state. SRV used a left-handed vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge on his guitar, a nod to his hero Jimi Hendrix (who’s also been known to pick up a Strat) that we’ve recreated to the letter. The two-piece alder body is specially chosen for its weight and grain, with an NOS lacquer finish that will age and wear in a distinctly personal way, just like the original. And the tinted riftsawn maple neck has an “Oval C” profile that’s slightly thinner on the treble side, so you can bend those strings into the stratosphere just like SRV.
